Our Mission

Horse-First Stewardship

Epona's Wing is more than a sanctuary — it is a place where horses are honored in dignity and freedom.

Horse-First Stewardship

Rooted in compassion, presence, and respect, Epona's Wing exists as a living ecosystem where the well-being of the horse comes first. Every choice we make — from the land we steward to the pace of each horse's rehabilitation — begins with compassion, and careful assessment of their physical and emotional needs. We do not ask horses to perform, produce, or earn their place.

Trauma-Informed Sanctuary

Every horse rescued is provided with not only safety and healing but a forever home, where they will always live in dignity, free from harm or abandonment. Rescued horses arrive carrying the imprint of fear, and we meet them with a regulated nervous system, predictable rhythm, and as much time as they need to learn to trust and feel safe again.

Regulation-First Philosophy

Within this space, our specialized team begin implementing their knowledge of co-regulation techniques — for many horses this is a very different way of relating to humans — one grounded in awareness, nervous system regulation, and authentic connection. Co-regulation is the heart of our work: horses cannot heal in a dysregulated environment, and neither can the humans who arrive to the sanctuary seeking the same peace and restoration.

Restoration of Dignity

Through time, patience, and love horses are gently guided back to themselves — reconnecting with trust, safety, and love. A horse who was once labeled 'unwanted' becomes, here, a sovereign being with a name, a story, and a future. We do not save them. We make space for them to remember who they are — and in doing so, we are invited to remember ourselves.
