NO horse should be forgotten

Our Mission

Restoring dignity to horses.
Restoring presence to people.

Epona's Wing is a horse rescue and rehabilitation sanctuary in Texas — a horse-first ecosystem of rescue, rehabilitation, and relational safety. We do not rescue horses to use them. We rescue horses so they can exhale, and learn how to trust again.

And in their exhale, something quiet returns to us, too. Together we return to our innate connection, a bond that reminds us that the horse is a place where peace exists the moment their large otherworldly eyes gaze into ours. At Epona's Wing we remove the horses that have been forgotten, and discarded from the kill pen auctions. Many have traveled hundreds of miles across state lines from feed lots with little to no water and food. Horses that end up in an auction pipeline have lived their entire lives in a comfortable barn. They were ridden and groomed daily, bonded with their trainer or owner, and never went a day without food or water. Their worth was measured in prize money and ribbons. Over years of performing the same movements again and again, until joints stiffened and muscles wore thin with age. When injury or exhaustion finally caught up with them, their value vanished overnight. In the performance circuit, a horse who can no longer earn is simply sold to the highest bidder, funneled down the auction pipeline, or passed off privately. No goodbye. No gratitude. Just a transaction. The only life they had ever known was over.

The Forgotten

Why This Matters

The reality behind the rescue mission.

Although horse slaughter is no longer legal within the United States, thousands of American horses are transported each year across borders into pipelines abroad.
